"Parameters of Growth" is a project that combines the aesthetic features of traditional Song Dynasty porcelain with modern tableware design through parametric design. The project uses algorithms and programming to digitally extract the forms and patterns of Song porcelain, ultimately creating modern tableware that reflects the aesthetics of Song porcelain and contemporary dining culture. This design not only preserves the cultural essence of Song porcelain but also introduces an innovative method for preserving patterns, making the work significant in both cultural and design contexts.
RESEARCHThrough my research, I discovered that lotus flowers have 3-4 layers of perianths. Based on this, I designed a basic lotus pattern using Grasshopper. After making adjustments, I generated a series of lotus patterns, finally, I created a surface texture for tableware.
